Penn State Executive Programs at the Smeal College of Business and Penn State College of Medicine created these programs to help you address your industry’s current challenges as you build resiliency.

Attend these short courses at no cost if you're a long-term care facility provider, leader, or manager in the Southcentral region.

Leading and Managing a
Long-Term Care Team

If you lead or manage people, you'll benefit from this comprehensive series. These interactive sessions focus on the topics that matter most to you: goal attainment, employee recruitment/retention, and organizational success. This course will help you:

  • Discuss the importance of emotional intelligence and how you can use it to be a more effective leader
  • Define critical steps in the performance management process and how to use those steps to drive success
  • Discuss and maximize drivers of employee motivation & engagement
  • Assess teams to harness strengths and increase group productivity

Leading and Developing a
Culture of Inclusion

Inclusive leadership is critical in shaping organizational culture, encouraging positive workplace interactions, increasing empathy across differences, and developing strategies that support inclusive teams. The main learning objective in this session is knowing how to create and maintain increasingly diverse and engaged teams that deliver value to internal and external stakeholders. You'll learn to:

  • List key factors that shape organizational culture
  • List three foundational strategies to develop an inclusive organization
  • Describe common barriers to workplace inclusivity and create strategies to reduce them
  • Explore specific actions supervisors can take to positively influence team culture

Communication Strategy for
LTC Leaders

 
Today’s workplace offers a complex variety of modes through which leaders communicate critical concepts, ideas, and strategic messages. This program offers a unique design that brings together multiple faculty experts who will help you explore effective strategies for communicating strategic vision up, down, and across the organization, with particular focus on channel selection, message authenticity, and communicating across generations. As a result of this program, you will be able to:
  • Leverage intentional communication as a strategic leadership strength
  • Uncover unique drivers of performance in a diverse workforce
  • Learn a methodology for effectively communicating strategic vision
  • Use communication that fosters engagement and supports change
  • Select the best channels for different messages.

Implementing Strategy for
Success in LTC

Develop an integrated approach to strategy implementation and change management. Build strategic thinking abilities, decision-making acumen, change management awareness, and influencing skills. Maximize your skills to drive organizational performance and growth. This course will help you:

  • Systemically assess the organization to ensure your implementation plans are complete

Penn State College of Medicine designates this live activity for up to 45 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
 
NP and PA Credits
Consistent with AMA guidelines, nurse practitioners and physician assistants will receive a certificate verifying their participation in the activity. The certificate will indicate that the program was approved for up to 45 AMA PRA Category CreditsTM.
 
Nurses Using AMA Credit
Nurses will receive a certificate from Penn State College of Medicine verifying their participation in up to 45 hours of approved continuing medical education. Continuing education activities which are approved by accredited institutions of higher education and that are relevant to patient care or professional nursing meet the requirements of mandatory continuing education for registered nurses in Pennsylvania, as required by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. The Board of Nursing recommends that nurses retain their certificates for a period of at least five years. **Nursing Home Administrators (NHA)
Application has been made for up to 45 credits from the State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators under provider number PR000201L.
 
Social Work Credit
Penn State is an approved provider as defined by Pa. Code Sections 47.36(a)(3), 48.36(a)(3), and 49.36(a)(3). Social workers, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors licensed by the state of Pennsylvania can earn up to 45 clock hours of continuing education for completing this course.
